The Artist

Len Mazzo metal scupltures - metal artist, born in New York City, has lived in the Mojave Desert of Southern California, near Joshua Tree National Park for over 30 years. Like the enigmatic sculptures he creates from abandoned car and machine parts, he feels he has come full circle; the materials he resurrects were objects he admired in his youth.

Mazzo searches for pieces with interesting shapes and paint patterns. He then reshapes them and works meticulously to enhance the existing distressed patina. He continues to discover beauty in these decayed and discarded objects and gives them new life, each piece is literally one of a kind.

Parallels in his work to Georgia O'Keefe's juxtaposition of the living and the dead are easy to see. Mazzo also admires and ultimately celebrates the original creators of his source materials, designers Raymond Loewy and his contemporaries. He is inspired by Jackson Pollack's work as he manipulates the imperfections on the surfaces of his sculptures.

An award winner at the 2006 Scottsdale Arts Festival, he is assured invitation in 2007. Len Mazzo is represented by Desert Art Source Palm Desert, California.
